Eight fans lined up behind the front storage bays cool a single AMD EPYC processor from either the first- or second-generation. The processor supports a thermal design point of up to 180W and 16x memory module slots with up to 1TB of memory. This no compromise built-to-order server is compatible with registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, but LRDIMMs are not supported when AMD EPYC 7002 series CPUs are used.
Under the hood, the AMD EPYC series processors deliver eight memory channels with two DIMMs per channel. As a result, the server supports a total of 16x memory module slots with up to 1,024GB of memory. The AMD-based system supports RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules, but as mentioned in the section above, LRDIMMs are not supported when second-generation AMD EPYC processors are deployed in all configurations.
On the front of the system are 24x 2.5-inch hot-swap U.2 NVMe drive bays with an additional 2x 2.5-inch hot-swap SATA drive bays on the back of the chassis. The backplane supports SAS at 12Gb/s, plus SATA at 6Gb/s and NVMe drives for significantly greater performance and resiliency. Both front and 2x rear SATA drive bays are compatible with SSD or HDD.
On the rear of the Transport SX TN70AB8026 B8026T70AV2E24HR server there are 6x PCI-Express slots. For additional expansion, a half-length, half-height PCIe x8 Gen3 cards can be installed. For support of SAS drives requires a discrete RAID controller. There is also a dedicated slot for a OCP 2.0 x16 LAN mezzanine card offering faster I/O connection speeds than the 2x integrated 1GbE ports.
Remote AST2500 iKVM features are included for the server management, at no additional cost. This offers support over IP and remote platform flash, as well as USB 2.0 virtual hub. Other management options include a dedicated IPMI port on the back of the chassis and Redfish. Redfish adds security, increases productivity, and plays a significant role enabling next-generation infrastructures.
