Designed for cloud and edge applications, the 2U Gigabyte R272-P31 server is powered by the high core count Ampere Altra Max CPU delivering 96 to 128 cores with just a single socket. This machine supports up to 16x memory module slots with up to 4TB of memory at capacity. 6x PCIe Gen 4.0 expansion slots offer improved bandwidth for I/O and NVMe performance.
As a single-socket server, the Gigabyte R272-P31 server features an Ampere Altra Max processor with 96 to 128 cores. The system is also compatible with the previous generation Ampere Altra processors delivering up to 80 cores. With more cores, there is a higher possibility of security threats, but Gigabyte diminishes the risk with its hard-level Root of Trust (RoT). The server also implements free-of-charge software using Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) and Gigabyte Management Console, to manage one server or a cluster of systems. This system is designed for standard networking applications such as file storage, use a virtual server, a shared Internet connection, file access vie VPN and hosting an Intranet to name a few.

The 7-nanometer architecture processor on this system supports 96 to 128 cores using the Ampere Altra Max processor. Just a single CPU delivers 128 PCIe lanes for fast and simultaneous workload processing. It provides dual-processor performance, supporting an 8-channel memory architecture with up to 16x memory module slots. This allows for faster throughput and low-power consumption, all while improving efficiency. Similarly, the server focuses on security, implementing a hard-level Root of Trust hardware to prevent the server from being compromised and protect it against cyber threats.
Under the hood of a 2U server, the MP32-AR1 motherboard with an EATX form factor supports an 8-channel memory architecture with two modules per channel, with 16x memory module slots. Each slot can support module capacities up to 256GB for up to 4TB of memory when all DIMMs are populated. Like Intel’s x86 systems, this ARM64 based System on a Chip (SoC) platform is compatible with Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. Speeds of up to 3200MHz can be reached, depending on the type and amount of memory modules installed. NOTE: Only supports configurations with 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, or 16 DIMMs
8x 2.5" SATA drive bays are located on the front of the system. All of these drive bays are hot-swappable and support either hard disk drives (HDD) or solid-state drives (SSD). The system also uses a tool-less drive bays design to install or replace any of the 8x drives. In addition to the storage bays on the front of the R272-P31, plus two M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 slots with support for 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110 cards that can be used in a bootable RAID configuration.
The Ampere Altra and Ampere Altra Max CPUs provide up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. There are 6x low profile PCIe Gen4 slots with x16 and x8 configurations, enough to meet the needs of any workplace. The motherboard also supports an OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot, occupied by CSTO180 (ASM1164) SATA HBA, plus 4x U.2 ports and 2x SlimSAS connections.
The Aspeed AST2500 BMC is included with the Gigabyte R272-P31 server, along with two free management tools. The Gigabyte Management Console, which uses a browser-based interface to monitor and manage a single server or a small cluster, comes pre-installed on the system. Likewise, the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) software allows Administrators to manage multiple servers or large server clusters remotely.
The 2U single-socket Gigabyte R272-P31 server is powered by the Ampere Altra Max and Ampere Altra CPUs and is designed for cloud and edge applications. This system has 16x memory module slots that can hold up to 4TB of memory, as well as 6x PCIe expansion slots that support PCIe Gen4 technology with 128 lanes. With 96 to 128 cores on the 7nm processor, Gigabyte mitigates the risk of cyber threats with its hard-level Root of Trust (RoT).
