Offering the latest technology in a 2U chassis, the Gigabyte R272-Z31 server is a single-socket platform with support for VMware and the GIGABYTE Management Console software. Featuring a single AMD EPYC 3rd Generation processor, this machine has enough power for the most compute-intensive workloads for use as a storage or virtual server.
Out of the 8x servers in the Gigabyte R272 family, the Gigabyte R272-Z31 platform is one of four servers that use AMD EPYC 7003 series processors. The remaining 4x servers are powered by Ampere Altra CPUs. This particular server offers an AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series CPU with up to 64 cores and 128 threads, plus 16x memory module slots that can be outfitted with up to 4TB of memory. This system is ideal for storing and retrieving media and content, database analytics, web hosting, and artificial intelligence applications.

The R272-Z31 is powered with just a single processor from the AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series. The CPU socket supports a configurable thermal design power (cTDP) of up to 280W, making Gen3 CPUs the better option if users need the highest performance. With support for up to 64 cores and 128 threads, the 7nm architecture chip can meet the need for computational power in the most demanding industries. It also supports the latest and fastest memory speeds, M.2 storage devices, and PCIe Gen4 compatibility.
The latest AMD EPYC 3rd generation processors allow the server to run 8x channels of DDR4 memory, with 2x DIMMs per channel, in a total of 16x memory module slots. Up to 2TB are supported with registered RDIMMs and load reduced LRDIMMs, while 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM modules support double the amount for a total of 4TB of memory. Memory speeds up to 3200MHz are supported, but are determined by the amount and type of DIMMs installed on the motherboard.
24 x 2.5" SATA/SAS drive bays are on the front panel plus an additional 2x 2.5” SATA/SAS storage bays on the rear. The R272-Z31 server has all of its devices connected to the onboard SAS35x36R storage expander with speeds of up to 12Gb/s. With its tool-less, hot-swappable drive trays, the chassis can be set up in a matter of minutes. To boot the operating system, two ultra-fast PCIe Gen3 M.2 slots on the MZ32-AR0 Rev. 3.0 motherboard, can be outfitted with 2242, 2260, or 2280 size drives.
This Gigabyte system offers 4x PCIe x16 Gen4 slots, and an additional two PCIe Gen3 slots with x8 and x16 configurations, which can be accessed through the rear panel. To the left of the 6x low-profile, half-length slots is a single OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot with PCIe Gen3 x16 bandwidth. You will also find 2x M.2 slots located on the motherboard with room for 2242, 2260, or 2280 cards.
As this machine is designed for virtual environments, it is VMware ready and enables teams to execute numerous application and operating system workloads on a single server allowing for improved resource management. Administrators can also take advantage of Gigabyte’s Management Console, a pre-installed software to manage and maintain each system or a small cluster. Once the servers are up and running, IT personnel can utilize the browser-based software to perform real-time health monitoring. Also supported and free-of-charge is the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) offering a complete range of management utilities to support several servers or large clusters.
The Gigabyte R272-Z31 server offers top performance with a single AMD EPYC processor from the latest 7002 or 7003 series. Outfitted with this CPU, the system features support for 16x DIMMs and up to 4TB of DDR4 memory. It also features 2x M.2 slots, and 6x PCIe slots with both Gen3 and Gen4 compatibility. The 26 x 2.5" SATA/SAS hot-swappable drive bays offer flexibility for several mission-critical business applications now and into the future.
