With ultra-fast PCIe 4.0 compatibility and a capacity of a little over 4TB of memory, the Gigabyte R272-Z32 server offers the latest technology for better performance plus faster response times. The single AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series CPUs offer memory and storage flexibility to support a number of mission critical applications for a growing business.
One of eight systems in the R272 family, the Gigabyte R272-Z32 server supports a single 2nd or 3rd gen AMD EPYC processor with up to 64 cores. The PCIe 4.0-ready platform offers up to 4TB of memory when all 16x DIMMs are populated. 26x storage bays can be configured with SATA, SAS, and NVMe storage options to support a number of applications including, use as a virtual server, database analytics, and web hosting, to name a few.

Built around PCIe 4.0 technology, the G272-Z32 platform supports a single AMD EPYC 7003 series processor, as well as the 7002 series family. The CPU on this system is limited to a cTDP of up to 280W, which includes the entire product line up for both 2nd and 3rd generation CPUs at this time. With support for up to 64 cores and 128 threads and support for PCIe 4.0, this machine is ready to tackle any workload when powered with its 1200W (240V) 80 PLUS Platinum redundant power supplies.
With a single 2nd or 3rd generation AMD EPYC CPU, the system features 8x memory channels, supporting 2x DIMMs per channel. The maximum capacity of this server is 4TB when all 16x memory module slots are populated with 256GB 3DS registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. When standard RDIMMs or LDRIMMs are installed, half of the previously mentioned memory is supported. The amount and type of DIMMs installed determines the memory speed, which ranges from 2933MHz to 3200MHz.
The server offers multiple storage configurations with SATA, SAS, and NVMe compatibility. It comes with a GRAID SupremeRAID card, which enables 4 to 32 NVMe storage devices to free up CPU computing resources. This means the server will achieve a substantially higher performance while ensuring that service quality is not compromised. However, this 2U chassis only supports a total of 26x drive bays with 24x 2.5” NVMe drives up front and 2x 2.5” SATA/SAS drives in the rear. All drive bays are hot-swappable and support HDDs or SSDs. In addition to the external storage bays, there are 2x M.2 slots on the motherboard with a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface that can be used to boot the OS.
Offering a total of 6x PCIe expansion slots, only 4x of those slots are PCIe Gen 4.0, while the remaining 2x are PCIe Gen 3.0. With PCIe 4.0, Admins can expect up to double the performance of the previous generation PCIe 3.0. All 6x PCIe slots are low-profile, half-length slots. Next to those is an OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot with a PCIe Gen3 x16 interface.
As part of the VMware-ready systems, the R272-Z32 helps businesses operate numerous workloads on a single server to cut down on IT costs. Users are also able to manage or maintain the health of a single or a cluster of servers by using Gigabyte’s free-of-charge software, the Gigabyte Management Console. The Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) is also free of charge and offers comprehensive management utilities for groups of servers or large clusters.
Using a single AMD EPYC series processor from the 7003 or 7002 families, the Gigabyte R272-Z32 server can deliver impressive dual processor performance and a faster Return on Investment (ROI). 26x hybrid drive bays have options to be outfitted with SATA, SAS, and NVMe drive formats, plus the 16x DIMMs supporting up to 4TB of memory, provide the flexibility and performance to tackle any workload.
