Featuring the latest AMD EPYC processor, built on a 7nm manufacturing process, the system supports a single AMD EPYC 7003 series CPU with up to 64 cores and 128 threads. Along with the 7003 series CPUs, the server’s MZ32-AR0 motherboard also supports the 7002 series processor family with a configurable TDP of up to 280W. With more processor features comes more technological advancements like support for increased M.2 drive capacity, faster memory speeds, and better security. This server is PCIe Gen 4.0 ready with twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe Gen 3.0.
With a processor that supports faster 8-channel DDR4 memory lanes, the R272-Z30 has a 4TB memory capacity with speeds of up to 3200MHz, when all 16x DIMM slots are filled. Each channel can hold up to 2x DIMMs, however administrators can choose to build the server with one DIMM per channel. The amount and type of DIMMs on the motherboard will determine the memory operation speed with some configurations only supporting memory speeds of 2933MHz. The platform supports registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM modules. RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules with a maximum capacity of 128GB are supported, while memory modules of up to 256GB using 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM modules can be installed.
The R272-Z30 server has a total of 14x SATA/SAS drive bays. There are 12 x 3.5" SATA/SAS hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays on the front panel, while the rear of the chassis holds an additional 2 x 2.5" SATA/SAS hot-swappable HDD/SSD drives. All drive trays are tool-less, so they can be installed or replaced in seconds. The storage bays on the front panel can be configured to support 4 x SATA drives and 8 x SAS drives via an optional SAS host bus adapter (HBA) RAID controller. The server also supports 2x M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 slots for additional storage or to boot the operating system.
A total of 6x low profile PCIe Gen4 and Gen3 expansion slots are available on this system and can be accessed through the rear panel. In addition, there is a single OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot with PCIe Gen3 x16 bandwidth for additional network connections and bandwidth options. There are 2x integrated 1GbE LAN ports adjacent to a dedicated mLAN port.
As a Red Hat Certified Hardware platform, this server is capable of running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. With Gigabyte’s Server Management (GSM) software, the system’s AST2500 BMC allows for convenient remote management through IPMI or Redfish API compatible options. Gigabyte also offers a free-of-cost mobile application that can be downloaded by both iOS or Android users.
The Gigabyte R272-Z30 is a single-socket, AMD EPYC-based system with up to 4TB of memory when all DIMM slots are populated to capacity. The server features front and rear access for up to 14x SATA/SAS storage bays. It features two M.2 slots on the motherboard for support of the OS or a hypervisor. With 6x low-profile PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 expansion slots, plus compatibility with 7002 and 7003 series AMD EPYC processors, this platform offers exceptional flexibility for a number of cloud computing applications and for use as a storage server.
