The Gigabyte R272-P33 is a 2U server supported by a single Ampere Altra or Ampere Altra Max processor. It features NVMe drives on the front panel and offers up to 16x memory module slots on the MP32-AR1 motherboard. With just a single CPU, the system uses less power, resulting in increased efficiency and a quicker ROI.
Featuring a single-socket design, the Gigabyte R272-P33 server supports an Alpere Altra Max CPU featuring a PCIe 4.0 interface and NVMe storage bays. In addition to Gigabyte’s two management software suites, Smart Ride Through (SmaRT), is also available to prevent downtime and data loss as a result of loss of AC power. This platform I designed for standard networking applications such as a shared file server, use as a virtual server, file access via VPN, and a shared Internet connection to name a few.

A single-socket for an Ampere Altra or Ampere Antra Max processor is available on the MP32-AR1 motherboard to process large amounts of data in the edge and cloud industries. With a 7nm architecture, the CPU offers up to 128 cores with Ampere Max CPUs or up to 80 cores using the previous generation Ampere CPUs. Featuring 8-channel memory architecture it can support up to 4TB of memory with all 16x slots fully populated with 256GB memory modules. The rear of the chassis houses dual 1200W redundant 80 PLUS platinum power supplies.
The 8-channel DDR4 memory architecture can be outfitted with 2x DIMMs per channel. 16x memory module slots on the system board can each be outfitted with a 256GB memory module for maximum capacity. Either registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules with speeds of up to 3200MHz are supported.
Orange tabs on the front of the server distinguish the 8x 2.5” NVMe drive bays on the R272-P33. The 2U server can be loaded with solid-state drives (SSD), which can be swapped out in a matter of seconds with a tool-less drive bays design. Under the hood, there are slots for two optional M.2 PCIe 4.0 storage devices that can be used to boot the operating system.
Aside from the two M.2 slots for additional storage, a total of 6x PCIe Gen4 expansion slots can be found on the rear of the server. 4x of them are low-profile x16 slots while the other two are occupied with PCIe to NVMe HBAs. Users can also take advantage of the 8x U.2 ports, plus an OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot and 2 x 1GbE LAN ports.
To manage the system, Gigabyte includes two free-of-cost programs to remotely or locally manage a single or a cluster of servers. Both the Gigabyte Management Console and the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) software are browser-based and can manage the servers' health, fan speed, and temperature. Gigabyte also offers Smart Ride Through (SmaRT) to prevent server downtime and data loss if the power goes out. Capacitors in the power supply can provide power for 10-20ms, giving ample time to switch to a backup power source and keep running. Similarly, the Smart Crises Management and Protection (SCMP) feature can for the Altra processor into an ultra-low power mode to avoid damage or data loss.
The Gigabyte R272-P33 server is a single -socket powerhouse offering excellent performance for standard networking applications. With up to 128 cores, the single Ampere Altra processor supports up to 4TB of memory and memory speeds of up to 3200MHz. 8x NVMe storage drives on the front of the chassis deliver dependable and fast data storage for any high-performance workload application.
