Part of Gigabyte’s 8x GPU family of servers, the Gigabyte G292-280 GPU server features dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. It also supports hybrid storage up front with a choice of SAS, SATA or NVMe storage devices, up to 6TB of memory, and PCIe 4.0 for significantly more bandwidth than PCIe 3.0 speeds.
Like Gigabyte’s other 8x GPU servers, the Gigabyte G292-280 GPU server is designed to support applications in AI, AI training, AI inference, visual computing, and high-performance computing. Featuring 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the Platinum, Gold, or Silver families will provide varying core counts, but all will support PCIe 4.0 speeds. At maximum memory capacity, up to 6TB can be installed.

2x AMD EPYC 7002/7003, 8x PCIe 4.0, 2x PCIe 4.0, 4TB mem., 8x SAS/SATA
One or two 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors can be installed in this system. Platinum Scalable CPUs will provide the highest core count at up to 40 cores, with Gold providing up to 32 cores, and Silver Scalable CPUs with up to 20 cores. Each processor also supports 8x memory channels, memory speeds of up to 3200MHz, and up to 64 lanes of PCIe 4.0 per CPU for 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes in a dual processor configuration.
Registered (RDIMM) memory modules will support up to 1.5TB of memory, while load reduced (LRDIMM)memory modules will support a maximum capacity of up to 3TB of memory. 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules will provide the highest capacity using 256GB memory modules in all 24 slots for a total capacity of up to 6TB of memory. Memory speeds of 3200MHz, 2933MHZ, and 2666MHz are supported depending on choice of CPU and memory modules with the system defaulting to the slowest performer.
Color coding on the 8x up front storage bays indicate SAS and SATA support for the blue drive release tabs and support for SAS, SATA or NVMe Gen4 U.2 drives in bays with fluorescent green drive release tabs. For SAS drive implementation a discrete SAS HD/RAID controller is required and will provide data transfer speeds of up to 12Gb/s. SATA and NVMe drives are supported natively through the system board with limited RAID functionality.
The main feature on this system, are the 8x GPU accelerators which are supported in 4x separate PCIe GPU cages with two placed to either side of the motherboard in a symmetrical layout. Two more PCIe sockets at the back of the system provide support for low profile, high-performance I/O cards or for a SAS HD/RAID controller among other things. All PCIe slots on the system are PCIe 4.0, which provides twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. Supported GPU accelerators include various AMD, Nvidia, Xilinx, and Qualcomm GPUs.
Gigabyte provides their proprietary management software free for download. For single server implementations there is the Gigabyte Management Console. To manage multiple servers, administrators can use the Gigabyte Server Manager. Both provide insights on server health, remote troubleshooting, resource allocation monitoring, and other tools to help reduce server downtime. They are both managed from a standard browser interface. Remote access is provided by the ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC) module located on the system board and accessible through the GbE RJ45 port.
3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide the Gigabyte G292-280 GPU server with up to 40 physical cores and support for up to 8x full-height, full-width GPU accelerators. Supporting up to 6TB of memory, this platform is perfect for use in high-performance computing applications like scientific and financial analysis and modeling, plus AI, AI training, and AI inference.
