Providing up to 14x drive bays with SATA or SAS configurations, the Gigabyte R281-3C1 server supports Intel Optane DC Persistent memory (DCPMM) when 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, are installed. Up to 3TB of DDR4 memory is supported depending on the memory type that’s used to populated the memory module slots.
Outfitted with 24x DIMM slots and 14x storage bays, the Gigabyte R281-3C1 server supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or second generation. The system is managed by the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) for multiple systems or the Gigabyte Management Console (GMC) for a single server. This server is designed to be an integral part of your networking environment offering file storage, Internet hosting, file access via VPN, share internet connection, and for use as a virtual server.
Gigabyte’s R281-3C1 server is optimized for a high thermal design point of up to 205W for each of the dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors installed on the MR91-FS0 motherboard. First-generation and second-generation CPUs are supported on this system, including the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum SKUs. These CPUs have up to 28 cores and 56 threads per socket, and support 24x DIMMs through a 6-channel memory architecture, but if only one CPU is installed some memory and PCIe functions will be unavailable.
This system is able to support up to 12x DIMMs per processors, with 2x DIMMs per channel, for a total of 24x DIMM slots in a two-processor configuration. Fast and efficient performance is provided by the 3TB of memory supported on the MR91-FS0 motherboard when load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are installed. Up to 1.5TB of memory is supported when registered (RDIMM) memory modules are installed. In addition to the DDR4 modules, this system also supports up to 12x Intel Optane DC Persistent (DCPMM) memory modules with each module supporting up to 256GB.
To eliminate the possibility of performance interruptions, the R281-3C1 server features hot-swap drive bays. There are 12x 3.5” SATA/SAS drives on the front panel, also compatibility with 2.5” drive form factors. A SAS card is required to enable the drive bays. In addition, there is a drive cage on the rear panel that can support 2x 2.5” SAS/SATA drives for additional storage or to support the operating system. 2x Internal SATA disk on module (DOM) are also supported providing an alternative for hosting the OS or hypervisor. Viurtual RAID on CPU or vROC is also supported providing standard RAID functions for SSD storage devices. All drive bays are compatible with hard disk or solid-state drives.
3x risers provide options for mounting PCIe cards with up to 8x PCIe Gen3 expansion slots. There are also 2x open compute project (OCP) Gen3 x16 mezzanine slots towards the back of the server providing additional options for I/O ports and connection speeds.
The Gigabyte Management Console is designed for single-server deployments. Furthermore, administrators can use the Gigabyte Server Manager to manage many servers. Both render a browser-based user interface that provides remote troubleshooting, inventory information, health status, and out-of-band reboot. Both are also available free of charge.
Powered by Intel’s cutting-edge Xeon Scalable processors, the dual CPUs offer support for 24x DIMMs with up to 3TB of DDR4 memory. This server also supports Intel Optane DC memory modules for overall better performance and higher memory density. Ideal for file storage, file access, and networking, the system will handle any computing task.
