The Gigabyte R281-Z94 server is a 2U 12-bay system with support for up to 3x double slot GPU cards with a PCIe Gen3 interface. This server features dual AMD EPYC 7003 series processors, which deliver up to 8TB of memory when all 32x memory module slots are populated. High performance computing, virtualization, and software defined storage solutions are all targets for this system.
Outfitted with dual AMD EPYC processors the Gigabyte G281-Z94 server leverages the latest technology to power through the most demanding workloads. With up to 12x 3.5” drive bays that can also be outfitted with 2.5” drives, this system supports SATA and SAS drive formats, plus an M.2 slot.
Dual processors on the motherboard have a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 225W and a configurable TDP (cTDP) of up to 240W. Conditional support for CPUs with a TDP of up to 280W is also provided with certain hardware options. The system supports two AMD EPYC CPUs from either the 7001, 7002, or 7003 series, depending on which revision you choose (rev. B00, A00, 100), with up to 64 cores and 128 threads per CPU. These CPUs also have a 7nm architecture and an 8-channel memory architecture to support the 32x memory module slots. There are dual 2000W 80 Plus Platinum redundant power supplies on the rear to power the system.
With AMD EPYC processors installed on the MZ91-FS0 Rev. 3.0 motherboard, this system supports 8x memory channels per processor, or 16x DIMM slots, for a total of 32x DIMMs between both CPUs. Memory modules of up to 128GB are supported for standard registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory providing a total of 4TB when all slots are populated. 3DS RDIMMs and LRDIMMs support up to 256GB per module, for a total of 8TB. Depending on the type of memory used, speeds of up to 3200MHz can be reached.
The G281-Z94 server supports SATA drives at 6Gb/s, which are cost-effective and can support workloads with mass storage. The server also supports SAS drives, which outperform SATA drives at 12Gb/s and are frequently utilized where speed, reliability, and availability are critical. 12x drive bays line the front panel and can support either 2.5” or 3.5” drives. There are 4x SATA drive bays, plus 8x SATA/SAS drive bays, but a SAS controller card is required to enable those bays. All drives are hot-swappable and can support hard disk or solid-state drives.
There are 8x PCIe Gen3 expansion slots on the back panel of the system, just above the dual 1GbE LAN ports, MLAN port, and USB 3.0 ports. There are also 2x open compute project (OCP) Gen3 x16 mezzanine slots for OCP mezzanine cards that can provide additional I/O ports and connection speeds. Under the hood, the server supports 3x double slot GPUs with compatibility from AMD, NVIDIA, Xilinx, and Qualcomm. On the motherboard, you will find an ultra-fast M.2 slot with a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface for additional storage or to boot the operating system.
Gigabyte provides free administration software via a dedicated CPU incorporated inside the server. Users can utilize the Gigabyte Management Console (GMC), which is pre-installed on each server, to manage and maintain a single server or a small cluster. This interface also allows administrators to monitor and control the Broadcom MegaRAID adapters and integrate SAS/SATA/NVMe devices. Similarly, Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) is a software suite that can manage clusters of servers simultaneously over the internet.
The 2U Gigabyte R281-Z94 GPU server is powered by dual AMD EPYC processors from the 7001, 7002, or 7003 series family. It can support up to 3x double slot GPU cards, ultra-fast M.2, and 12x 3.5”/2.5” SATA drive bays, plus 8TB of memory for virtualized environments, high performance computing, and software defined storage solutions.
