The Gigabyte R281-NO0 system is one of many rack servers in the R281 family. Featuring dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first- or second-generation, the server also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules for better performance. In total, there are 26x 2.5” drive bays with SATA, SAS, and NVMe configurations.
With up to 24x memory module slots and 26x drive bays, the 2U Gigabyte R281-NO0 server is powered by 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. These CPUs support memory speeds of up to 2933MHz and Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules. This system is used for general networking applications including file storage, Internet hosting, file access via VPN, shared Internet connection and for use as a virtual server.
This 2U server supports two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generation with up to 28 physical cores and 56 virtual threads. Each CPU is optimized for a high thermal design point of up to 205W for Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum SKUs. These CPUs support 24x memory module slots with memory speeds of up to 2933MHz.
*Some PCIe or memory capabilities will be unavailable if only one CPU is available. With the support from dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, there’s a 6-channel memory architecture featuring 2x memory modules per channel, for a total of 12x per CPU or 24x DIMM slots total. Registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported on the MR91-FS0 motherboard with a maximum capacity of 1.5TB and 3TB, respectively. The rack server also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules (DCPMM), but only with second-generation processors. DCPMM can only fill 12 of the 24 memory slots with up to 256GB each.
This system features 24x front panel drive bays for NVMe U.2 drives. An additional 2x SATA/SAS drive bays on the rear of the chassis, support 2.5” SAS/SATA drives and bring the total storage bays to 26. The SAS3 expander in the chassis offers connectivity to the drive bays, but the Gigabyte backplane may be customized to add extra U.2 NVMe capability. This server is VROC (Virtual RAID on CPU) enabled, allowing software RAID for Intel NVMe SSDs only. The system comes with a VROC key as default. 2x SATA disk on module 7-pin connectors on the motherboard can be used for 2x SATA DOMs to support the OS.
*All drives are hot-swappable and are compatible with hard disk or solid-state drives. On the R281-NO0 server motherboard there are 3x risers with support for Gen3 x8 or x16 expansion cards for a total of 8x PCIe Gen3 expansion slots. In addition, there are 2x OCP mezzanine slots where one supports a Gen3 x16 slot and the other is occupied by a 4x U.2 mezzanine card providing support for the front mounted U.2 drives.
Gigabyte provides users with their free-of-charge software Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) and Gigabyte Management Console (GMC) with the purchase of this platform. GSM supports remote management of multiple servers. This option can be downloaded as a mobile application available for both iOS and Android mobile phones for remote server management on the go. The user-friendly dashboard manages system health, power consumption, and out-of-band reboots.
Featuring an all-NVMe interface on the front panel, the Gigabyte R281-NO0 server is ideal for storing large amounts of data, while performing accurately and quickly. The 24x memory module slots can be outfitted with up to 3TB of memory and are also compatible with Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules to provide more speed and memory capacity to any business workload. This server is an excellent choice for general networking applications.
