The Gigabyte R281-Z91 supports AMD EPYC 7003, 7002, or 7001 series processors and is compatible with SATA, SAS, and NVMe drives. In addition to the 24x up front drive bays and two more in back, the motherboard hosts an M.2 slot for additional storage and 8TB of memory when all 32x memory module slots are populated.
Outfitted with 24x drive bays in front and an optional rear drive cage supporting two additional drives, the Gigabyte R281-Z91 supports dual AMD EPYC processors from the 2nd or 3rd generation with up to 64 cores. The system offers 7x PCIe slots on three risers, plus two OCP mezzanine slots and a single M.2 slot. This system is a great option for use as a networked platform handling virtualized environments, file storage, Intranet hosting and for a shared Internet connection, plus file access via VPN.
This system is based on the 7nm AMD EPYC 7000 series processors from the 7001, 7002, or 7003 family. Two CPUs are supported with up to 64 cores and 128 threads per processor, which provide 128 PCIe lanes. Each AMD CPU supports a thermal design point of up to 225W and a cTDP of up to 240W.
*Some memory or PCIe functional may be unavailable if only 1 CPU is installed.
The AMD EPYC-based server features 128 PCIe lanes and 8 channels of DDR4 memory with 32x memory module slots for a variety of expansion options. Up to 128GB per RDIMM or LRDIMM modules are supported for a total of 4TB. When 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM modules are installed, more memory is supported with up to 8TB of memory, or 256GB per module.
A total of 26x drive bays are on this chassis with a range of different storage device combinations including SATA, SAS, and NVMe. This system features tiered storage with a mix of 6x 2.5” NVMe U.2 and 18x 2.5” SATA/SAS drives on the front panel. 2x additional 2.5” SATA/SAS drive bays on the rear of the chassis can be used to support the OS in failsafe mode using RAID 1 or just for additional storage. All drive bays are compatible with HDD and SSD drives, and all are hot-swappable. a single M.2 slot on the motherboard is available to support a hypervisor.
The R281-Z91 server is equipped with 8x PCIe 3.0 expansion slots supported by 3x risers, which are located towards the rear of the platform. There are also two embedded OCP Gen3 x16 mezzanine slots and a single ultra-fast M.2 with PCIe Gen3 x4 interface, which accepts 2242, 2260, and 2280 formats.
The server’s AST2500 IPMI controller has a Gigabit remote management port and web server access. Free-of-charge software like Gigabyte’s Management Console (GMC) and Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) allows administrators to monitor and control servers, both locally and remotely. These software utilities provide an HTML 5 user interface using a standard browser and provide information on inventory, power utilization, hard drives and can be configured to send alerts.
Powered by dual AMD EPYC processors from the 2nd or 3rd generation with up to 64 cores each, the Gigabyte R281-Z91 is ready to take on any high-performance application with its SATA, SAS, and NVMe compatibility. Up to 26x storage bays are available on the chassis, with the majority on the front panel, plus up to 8TB of memory when all 32x DIMM slots are populated.
