Gigabyte R282-Z94 Server
2x AMD EPYC 7002/7003, dual 1600W, 32x DIMMS, 8TB, 24x 2.5" Gen4 U.2
Dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported by Intel’s C621A express chipset. Processors with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 270W are supported, which includes a few from the Scalable Platinum family with up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads. Processors from the Gold and Silver families are also supported offering up to 32 cores and 20 cores, respectively. A new feature on 3rd generation CPUs supports PCIe 4.0 and more memory channels at 8x, compared to only 6x memory channels on the previous generations.
3DS Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported and feature a stacking die configuration providing twice the memory capacity of standard RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules. At full capacity, the system can support up to 8TB of memory using 256GB 3DS memory modules in all 32x memory module slots. Each CPU controls half the memory modules slot allocation, with each in charge of 16x memory module slots. Memory speeds of 3200MHz, 2933MHz, and 2666MHz are supported depending on the choice of CPU, memory module, and configuration.
12x 3.5-inch storage bays line the front of the Gigabyte R282-3C1 rack server that can be outfitted with either 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch HDD or SSD drive form factors. The 8x bays with blue drive release tabs support SATA or SAS hot-swap SSD or HDD drives. Those with green drive tray release tabs can support not only SAS and SATA drive formats, but also NVMe Gen4. The 2x drive bays at the rear support 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive formats and are connected via the SAS expander, offering a bandwidth of 6Gb/s with SATA drives or 12Gb/s with SAS drives. The default configuration includes 4x NVMe drives, with SAS/SATA drive only supported via a SAS card.
There are ample PCIe 4.0 expansion slots on the Gigabyte R282-3C1 server with a total of 8x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots, which are hosted in three separate risers. If SAS drives will be installed, then one of those slots will be used by a SAS controller card. Additional I/O controllers offering an assortment of ports and connection speeds can also be installed, plus extra high-performance PCIe based storage drives. Two OCP mezzanine card slots are provided in back with one supporting a next-gen OCP 3.0 card and the other an OCP 2.0 card.
A dedicated mLAN, or management LAN, port is provided on the back of the system providing access to the integrated Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC). The controller is compatible with both integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) and Redfish for compatibility with other third-party manufacturers. Gigabyte also offers two separate management utilities included free-of-charge. Gigabyte Management Console provides system status, troubleshooting, and inventory for a single server or small cluster of servers. Gigabyte Management Console (GMC) is a more robust alternative for large server deployments or large clusters of servers and provides a larger set of utilities to manage your network. With GMC you will need to install the GSM Agent on each platform to receive information, but the Agent is also provided without licensing fees.
Offering ample upfront storage with 12x 3.5-inch hybrid drive bays plus two more 2.5-inch drive bays in back, the Gigabyte R282-3C1 server is an easy fit for use as a general file server. It also offers powerful performance for use as a virtual server supporting dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads per socket. Substantial memory capacity at up to 8TB ensures rapid processing and with 8x PCIe 4.0 expansion slots, I/O is dramatically increased over previous generations.
