The Gigabyte R282-3C2 server is designed for mission critical network applications that are at the core of your business. This platform offers support for dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors offering up to 40 cores each. Fully outfitted, the system can support up to 8TB of memory plus 12x 3.5-inch hybrid drive bays up front and 2x 2.5-inch drive bays in back.
Designed for general file storage, hosting an Intranet, file access via VPN for use as a virtual server, or as a shared Internet connection, the Gigabyte R282-3C2 server offers flexibility for a number of applications. Outfitted with dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, this platform will also support up to 8TB of memory. It also offers built-in security features delivering a high level of cryptographic operations for data privacy and protection. Suitable for the next generation of add-on-cards, this system is OCP 3.0 ready for ease of serviceability and improved thermals. Given this system is a rev. 100 version you can be assured there will be an upgrade in the near future supporting an upgraded processor with more functionality.
Gigabyte R282-Z94 Server
2x AMD EPYC 7002/7003, dual 1600W, 32x DIMMS, 8TB, 24x 2.5" Gen4 U.2
Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors occupy a larger socket than previous generations negating the use of 2nd generation processors on this system. 3rd generation processors provide up to 40 cores with Platinum, up to 32 cores with gold, and up to 20 cores with Silver processors installed. All offer compatibility with PCIe 4.0, offering twice the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0. In addition, Intel’s hyperthreading technology in effect doubles the physical core count with twice as many virtual cores for increased performance. Also updated are the memory channels with 8x now instead of 6x and offering support for faster memory modules at up to 3200MHz. Powering the system are dual 1+1 redundant 1600W Platinum 80 PLUS PSUs.
With all 32x slots loaded to capacity, the system can support up to 8TB of memory using 256GB modules in all slots. Each CPU controls 16x memory module slots with 2x slots per memory channel. Even with all memory channels outfitted with dual processors, transfer speeds of up to 3200MHz are supported depending on CPU, memory modules installed, and memory configuration. 3Ds Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported offering a stacked die with greater density than standard RDIMM or LRDIMM modules enabling modules with higher capacities than 128GB.
The 12x 3.5-inch storage bays on the front of the chassis are color coded and can be outfitted with either 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drive form factors. 8x of the bays have blue drive release tabs indicating support for SATA and SAS hot-swap drives. The other 4x bays feature green release tabs indicating support for either SATA, SAS or Gen4 NVMe hot-swap HDDs or SSDs. 2x more drive bays in back support SAS or SATA 2.5-inch drives only and can be used for additional storage or to support the operating system. A virtual RAID on CPU or vROC module can be installed offering support for Intel-based SSD drives only. SAS drives will require a SAS RAID controller.
With 8x onboard PCIe Gen4 x16 expansion slots supported in 3x risers, there is ample room for a host of expansion card options on the Gigabyte R282-3C2 rack server. Expansion options include high-speed network interface controllers, PCIe based SSD drives, plus RAD controllers and NVMe switches. Helping preserve those PCIe slots are two Open Compute Project (OCP) mezzanine card slots. One offers next generation support with an OCP 3.0 Gen4 x16 mezzanine card slot and just slots in from the back of the system. The other is a more traditional mezzanine card with an OCP Gen3 x8 slot on the system board that will require some tools for installation or removal. The system also has two integrated 1Gb/s LAN ports on the back of the system.
Adjacent to the Gb LAN ports is a dedicated management LAN port (mLAN) for at chassis and remote management of the system through the Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC). This portal is integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) and Redfish compatible for interaction with other third-party hardware. Gigabyte also offer two software suites free of charge and devoid of licensing fees. The Gigabyte Management Console provides for management of a single server or a small cluster of servers. The Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) provides for management of several servers or large clusters of servers once the GSM Agent is installed on each platform. In addition, a mobile app is available for both iOS and Android operating systems giving Administrators and real-time look at system status, inventory, and can be used for troubleshooting.
Offering next generation features thanks to Intel’s 3rd generation Scalable processors, the 2U Gigabyte R282-3C2 server offers a compelling package to address standard networking applications. Compatibility with PCIe Gen4 also provides more and faster bandwidth for support of I/O and NVMe storage options. Gigabyte’s free-of-charge management software also helps keep cost down to realize a quicker return on investment.
