Supporting 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Gigabyte R282-N81 server delivers uncompromising performance for business-critical networking applications. Up front, it offers hybrid storage with support for SAS, SATA, and NVMe storage devices. It will also support up to 8TB of memory, including Intel Optane persistent memory modules.
Designed to support standard networking applications, the Gigabyte R282-N81 server can be used for file storage, hosting an Intranet, file access via VPN, a shared Internet connection or as a virtual server. With support for up to 8TB of memory and support for PCIe 4.0, thanks to Intel’s 3rd generation processors, this platform is very flexible. Hybrid storage up front also adds value with the speed and resiliency provided by SAS and NVMe storage options. The system is powered by dual 1600W 1+1 redundant PSUs. There are also several other SKUs within the Gigabyte R282 family, all featuring a 2U for factor with support for 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors or AMD EPYC 7002/7003 series CPUs for next generation performance.

Dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors offer support for up to 4TB of memory per socket plus optional data centric persistent memory modules, or by their supported brand name, Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series or PMem. These processors also support PCIe 4, which delivers twice the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0. Memory support has also been increased with support for 8x memory channels. Enhanced I/O with up to 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes compared to only 48 PCIe3.0 lanes in the previous generation also help transfer large data sets and support for PCIe-based NVMe storage options.
Registered (RDIMM) and load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported offering up to 8TB of memory at capacity with all 32 memory module slots loaded with 256GB memory modules. Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 3rd generation also enable support for data centric persistent memory module, known more commonly as Intel Optane persistent memory modules. PMem module can be used as fast resilient memory or storage depending on how they are configured in BIOS.
16x of the upfront 2.5-inch storage bays have blue release tabs indicating support for SATA or SAS drives hot-swappable drives. The other 8x bays have green release tabs and support SAS, SATA or NVMe hot-swappable drives. Two more 2.5-inch drive bays on the back of the system can support either SAS or SATA hot-swappable drive formats. SAS drives are supported by the optional SAS card with RAID levels dependent on the specific SAS controller that is installed on the Gigabyte R282-N81 server.
In total, there are 8x PCIe Gen4 x16 expansion slots hosted in 3x separate risers. In addition, there are two OCP card slots on the back of the system for other I/O and port options that won’t take away from the PCIe slots. One is an OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot with a PCIe 4.0 x16 interface and is supported by CPU_0. The other is an OCP 2.0 Mezzanine slot with a PCIe 3.0 x8 interface. Both feature a network connectivity status indicator (NCSI). The OCP 3.0 slot is much easier to change out for upgrades and can be removed without opening the cover of the server.
This platform features the Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller or BMC. It’s based on the AMI MegaRAC SP-X and offers a web-based interface. Gigabyte also delivers two software options to manage the system including the Gigabyte Management Console for a single server or small cluster or the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM), which can support multiple servers and large clusters. GSM offers a browser-based user interface and offers many tools for Administrators to manage the system both at chassis and remotely. A mobile app compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems gives Administrators a quick and easy way to monitor the system in real-time using a tablet or smart phone.
Designed for standard networking applications, the Gigabyte R282-N81 Server excels for file storage, hosting an Intranet, use as a virtual server, file access via VPN, or as a shared Internet connection. Dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide the performance, plus memory and storage density to excel in these mission critical business applications.
