It offers dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and up to 8TB of memory when fully configured. Gen 4.0 PCIe support also provides increased I/O throughput for NVMe storage and super-fast I/O expansion cards.
Appropriate for use in networking the Gigabyte R282-G30 server can address file sharing, a shared Internet provider, file access via VPN, and a number of other functions. Outfitted with dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors supporting up to 40 cores each, and a large memory footprint, it has the capacity for use as a virtual server. 12x hybrid drive bays plus two more in back provide ample storage for use as a file server.

Two LGA 4189 CPU sockets (Socket P+) on the system board each support 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads thanks to Intel’s hyper-threading technology. These processors also support PCIe 4.0, offering twice the theoretical throughput compared to PCIe 3.0 speeds. This enhanced throughput offers better performance for expansion I/O cards and NVMe storage options. The “Ice Lake” processors also support 8x memory channels per processor instead of just 6x memory channels supported on previous generation Xeon Scalable processors allowing for increased memory density.
With 8x memory channels and 16 DDR4 DIMM slots per socket, this system can support up to 32x DIMMs with both processors installed. 3DS Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) modules, have a stacking die architecture and will provide the highest memory capacity at up to 8TB with 256GB memory modules in all slots. Standard RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules will provide up to 4TB of memory. Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 Series are also supported offering speed and resiliency to your network.
The storage bays on the front of the chassis are color-coded with 8x blue and 4x green drive tray release tabs. The blue tabs indicate support for SATA or SAS hot-swappable SSD or HDD storage devices. The 4x drive bays with green tabs indicate support for either SATA, SAS or Gen4 NVMe SSD or HDD storage devices. All storage bays on the front of the Gigabyte R282-G30 Server have a 3.5-inch form factor, but can also support 2.5-inch drives. Support of SAS drive types requires a SAS PCIe card which will support data transfer speeds of up to 12Gb/s and offers a variety of different RAID options depending on which SAS controller is installed.
5x full-height, full-length (FHFL) x16 PCIe Gen 4.0 slots are hosted in 3x separate risers at the back of the chassis. Expansion slots can be used to support a number of different LSI controller or HBA cards offering varying levels of RAID. The PCIe slots can also be used to support PCIe-based storage options, and high-speed I/O. 2x OCP card slots at the back of the chassis provide other options for connecting the server to the network. One OCP 3.0 card utilizes a PCIe4.0 interface with a x16 slot. The other is an OCP 2.0 mezzanine card slot and occupies a PCIe 3.0 x8 connector on the system board.
A dedicated management port on the back of the system is adjacent to the dual 1Gb/s LAN ports. It provides a link to the integrated Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC) for ease of use with other third-party hardware. 2x free-of-charge management software suites are also provided by Gigabyte. The Gigabyte Management Console is for single servers or small clusters of servers, while the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) is designed for multiple, or large clusters of servers. GSM Agent needs to be installed on each individual server to be managed. The GSM Agent is also free of licensing charges.
